Houston Passport Office – Getting a Same Day Passport

by Dave Naffziger on December 18, 2010 at 10:36 pm

After exceeding 150 comments on post detailing my original experience getting a same day passport, I decided to go through the comments and separate the experiences and helpful tips by passport office.

These comments and tips were related to people’s experiences at the Houston Passport Office.

From Layman:

This was one of the most helpful blogs I have ever visited. Saved us about $200 for the expediting service + $50 to $75 on Fedex + time on the phone + headache of waiting…
I noticed on Wednesday night that my minor daughter’s passport had only 2 months left and we are leaving next Tuesday for Europe - requirement is to have at least 6 months validity. Around midnight Wednesday got an appointment for 8.30am on Thursday at the Houston office. Got the pp photos at a 24 hr Kinkos and we were at the office at 8.35am - out by 9am. The officer asked us to pick up the passport on Friday 2.30pm. Just did…
So, a big THANKS to Dave. Total cost: $145 at the office + parking and photos ($14). Time spent: 30 minutes (about 20 minutes at the Agency on the first visit and about 10 minutes today for pickup. They take all major credit cards (no extra fee) at the Passport office. And, do remember that if you are getting a passport for a minor, BOTH parents have to be present and a few other specifics - all very clearly listed out on the Govt site.
IF you live near a Regional Center - DON’T waste your money with an expediting service.
Thanks, Dave!

where is the location of the houston same day passport center?

  • Hello

Location is at 1919 Smith St, 77002.

My appointment was for 10:30, passport was ready at 3:30 the same day. The staff was extremely courteous and helpful, one of the security guards even offered to listen for my name being called out while I went to the restroom.

Total was $195 – $135 for passport book and processing fee, $60 expedited fee. As far as I could tell, there is no reason to go through a third-party service, the process is pretty straightforward.

Note: To get your passport the same day (at least in Houston), your appointment must be before 12:00 NOON.
My husband couldn’t make an appointment sooner than 2:00 as he had an important business meeting before hand. I tried to find out ahead of time if there was a cut-off for same day. When he arrived at about 1:35, he soon found out he would have to come back for pick-up about 2:30 the next day. Well, after talking with the agent, she offered to make an exception and have his ready about 10:30 AM the next morning so he wouldn’t have to wait around until the afternoon. Being that it is a 3 hour drive home this was greatly appreciated!

Did you send in  a check and it was cashed? Are you calling them to check the system or are you just checking  online – I wonder if your info is being matched properly.

If you get an airline ticket purchased, then you can go in two weeks before to the Houston office(if that’s nearest to you) and get your passport processed. Make sure you make your appointment for early in the morning.

I mailed my passport for expedite renewal with fees paid and my passport and my work needs me to travel in a week. Can I still go into the Houston Passport Agency and get my renewal passport for travel. I am worried and stressed I will not get this job, I need to keep working to pay my bills. Any advice of help please.

If both parents are present, is it still necessary to have the minors present to request their passports?  Thanks for the info guys!
