Interesting, Cool & Useful - Jan 07
I’m going to begin a somewhat regular posting of stuff that I’ve found around the web that I’ve found particularly interesting, cool or useful.
Interesting
- Doing work so your users don’t have to. If it were easy, you wouldn’t be creating value.
- Bilingualism delays the onset of dementia by 4 years. Iva speaks 5 languages - I wonder if its linear =)
- Aging delays for new domains. A great comprehensive breakdown of what to expect from new domains and new websites.
Cool
- Desktop punching bag that curses at you. I saw this at a friend’s place - it just asks to be flicked and then rewards you with a few foul words directed at you.
- LineRider. Sumit reminded me again what a tremendous time suck this can be.
- Simple Science Toys that you can build. I know the page is focused on “build with kids”, but screw them - these would be a lot of fun to build yourself.
Useful
- Feedburner on your domain. Gives you full control of your feeds in the future. Along the same lines as my request for reputation portability from blogger.
- Subscribe to comments plugin for wordpress. This is a feature that we’ve badly needed at JB for a long time. I’ve learned that installing wordpress plugins requires a bit of work to make sure nothing conflicts, but when I get the time I’ll install and test this.
- PC Repair System for a USB Drive. I frequently find myself troubleshooting computers - this will be useful since none of the applications need to install and can all be run right from the USB drive.
- Critical Thinking & SEO. Always think critically about every action you take or could take to improve your rankings.
